Question? Did God really hate Esau?
(Romans 9:13) As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
Answer:
No, not personally, but HIS SIN.
(Malachi 1:2,3) I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, (3) And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
(Genesis 25:23) And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people (Jacob = Israel)shall be stronger than the other people (Esau = Edomites); and the elder (Esau) shall serve the younger (Jacob).
These verses deal with in the primary sense of Two Nations.
1. The Nation of Israel – God’s Chosen people WHO through this Nation that the Messiah, Jesus Christ was prophesied to come from.
2. The Nation of Edomites – the decendants of Esau WHO were a constant scourge of the Jews.
What was Esau’s sin? He sold his Birthright for Bread and Pottage of Lentiles (V34)In Genesis 25:24-34 we have the recorded events that took place between Jacob and Esau.
The Birthright was special, it was RESERVED for the eldest son.
The birthright GAVE the possessor:
– a DOUBLE PORTION of the family inheritance.
– The RIGHT to be the priest of the family.
– To be the REPRESENTATIVE with whom God shared his will and purpose with.
For the nourishment of the flesh – 1 John 2:16, Esau GAVE AWAY this blessing from God.
(1 John 2:16) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And one must wonder how many blessings that some christians Have Forfeited because of sin.
In the book of Hebrews in Chp.12 Verse 17 we find out that although Esau with GREAT REMORSE (sought with tears) to regain his birthright he was rejected, in other words, he lost those blessings just as a christians does for their unfaithfulness, he also found NO REMOVAL (no place for repentance) of the consequences for that sin.
A proper spiritual application of this that can be applied for today would be…
– The Loss of a good Job, Marriage, Wife or a Girlfriend.
– A life long disability, handicap, or STD.
– Life in prison or maybe the death penalty itself.
IN CONSEQUENCE… Although the christian may have or has sought and received the Lord forgiveness (1 John 1:8,9) he may STILL see fitting to allow the christian to suffer the end results of those sins just as he did with Esau.
In Conclusion:
Christians must remember that sin comes WITH a price tag, and just like Esau did, they later come to regret it afterwards.
God hates the sins that hinders the christian in doing his will or prevents them from being faithful.
(Galatians 6:7) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins. the MOMENT you believe(TRUST in Christ ALONE) you recieve eternal life.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
