Question? Are we to confess our sins to christ after we are saved?
Answer:
YES
In 1 John 2:1 the Bible DECLARES:
(1 John 2:1) My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
The Bible states in this verse that IF WE DO SIN, we can go to the Lord Jesus in prayer and CONFESS our sins to him.
The word ADVOCATE in the Greek is PARAKLETOS and means INTERCESSOR.
There are those that teach FALSELY that once you are saved then there is no need to confess any sins that you have commited because they CLAIM FALSELY that ALL your sins have been paid.
Here is the tricky part, they are teaching a HALF TRUTH. YES it is true that ALL your Past, Present, and Future sins have been paid for on the cross and they use 2 Corinthians 5:17 as their proof text.
What those that teach NO CONFESSION of sins AFTER being saved REJECT to believe is that the Christian is a SINNER SAVED BY GRACE, although we are POSITIONALLY in God’s eyes are seen as RIGHTEOUS (perfect) we still have the OLD SIN NATURE in us and will have it till we are either raptured or die physically and we will commit sins DAILY.
To teach CONTRARY to this is to teach what is called Sinless Perfection a FALSE DOCTRINE that teaching that says that the old sin nature can be ERADICATED (removed).
Those that teach FALSELY that there is no need to confess your sins REJECT THE TRUTH that 1 John 1:9 is WRITTEN TO CHRISTIANS not to unsaved people as they TRY TO TEACH and CLAIM.
TAKE NOTICE of two words in 1 John 1:9 which they hate to admit to.
(1 John 1:9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God’s written word states that “IF WE” (refering to believers, christians, the saved ect) CONFESS OUR SINS.
Being that this verse is WRITTEN to christians then confessing our sins CANNOT and IS NOT about salvation, NO WHERE in scripture are we to confess our sins to be saved, all a person has to do is BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ, TRUSTING HIM ALONE for the COMPLETE PAYMENT for ALL their sins.
In 1 John 1:8 the bible DECLARES:
(1 John 1:8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Again there are those two little word “IF WE” and it goes on to say IF WE SAY we have NO SIN we decieve ourselves.
Whenever you see the words IF WE, BRETHERN, BELOVED, ect they are ALWAYS in reference to the BELIEVER, The Saved, or the Born Again Christian.
Another verse that teaches that we NEED TO have our sins wash away through confession to the Lord Jesus on a DAILY basis is John 13:5 – 10
(John 13:5-10) After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.(6) Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? (7) Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. (8) Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. (9) Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. (10) Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
These Five Verses DEMOSTRATE the truth that IN ORDER to remain in FELLOWSHIP with the Lord we need to be CLEANSED DAILY (demostrated by Jesus washing the diciples feet) from the sins that we commit, this is ONLY accomplished by going to the Lord and confessing our sins to him.
In verse eight where Peter told the Lord to NOT TO WASH HIS FEET, the Lord told Peter that he would HAST NO PART WITH ME, in other words he was going to have NO MORE FELLOWESHIP with him BECAUSE OF SIN.
God CANNOT Bless us, Reward us or have Fellowship with us if we REFUSE to confess our sins to him and that was the TRUTH the Lord Jesus was teaching the diciples.
Confession of sin is to OUR BENEFIT if we CHOSE NOT to admit our sins to the Lord, then The Lord will have to take action in PUNISHING us as a DISOBEDIENT child and all this is outlined in Hebrews Chapter 12: 5-11
(Hebrews 12:5-11) And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: (6) For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. (7) If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? (8) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. (9) Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? (10) For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. (11) Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins. the MOMENT you believe(TRUST in Christ ALONE) you recieve eternal life.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
