Question? What is the difference between Soul and Spirit?
Answer:
The Soul is the seat of a person’s or animal’s emotions and appetites in other word their desires.
Job 33:4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
The Spirit (the REAL you and me that CANNOT be seen) is the seat of a person’s Understanding and Intelligence this is WHAT SEPERATES US from the animal kindom.
Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
Animals do feel and experience happiness, sadness, pain, anger and even dream in their sleep but upon death they will cease to exist for they have NO SPIRIT.
(Psalms 32:9) Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.
The words NO UNDERSTANDING is the Hebrew words AYIN = No, BIYN = Understanding which means NO SPIRIT.
I have heard of reports about amputees stating and from a man that I KNOW PERSONALLY that is also a amputee say from his own mouth that he can still feel pain in the missing leg down to the toes, this explains that although the missing leg, arm or hand etc. that CANNOT be physically seen IS STILL very much there.
The Rich Man in Luke 16:19-31 is a PERFECT EXAMPLE even though he is dead physically, in his SPIRIT BODY he can still talk see, hear, feel, and remember for he is very much STILL ALIVE.
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: (20) And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, (21) And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. (22) And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; (23) And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. (24) And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. (25) But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. (26) And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. (27) Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: (28) For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. (29) Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. (30) And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. (31) And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
IN CONCLUSION:
In Hebrews 4:12 God says that HIS WORD is quick and powerful THAT CAN divide the soul and spirit, in other words the Word Of God CONVICTS the Spirit of a Believer which comes to their minds TO SEPARATE their desires (emotions, appetites, and lusts) of the Flesh (Soul), FROM the Spirit.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
