Question 476

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Does the word Believeth in John 3:16 mean a continuence in faith?

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Answer: NO,

The words “Whosoever Believeth” STATE a “One Time Event” not a continuous one.

If a person has to “Continue to believe” in order to “Remain Saved” then the security of the believer’s salvation is resting upon themselves rather then on the Lord and HIS word ( the Bible ).

The Word of God says in 1 Peter 1:5 that the believer is “Kept Saved” BY THE “Power of God”.

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

NOTE: Those that teach “A continuance in Faith” TRY to claim that the words THROUGH FAITH means a “On going Belief” on the part of the person but this is NOT the meaning and simply stating a one time event, in other words the person DID BELIEVE (Through Faith) on the Lord Jesus Christ IS NOW and for eternity KEPT SAVED by the Word and Authority (Power) of God.

SADLY there are MANY churches including the “Free Will Baptist” that teach that the christian MUST continue in belief but this nothing more than ADDING WORKS and human merit to salvation.

John 6:47 states…

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

NOTE: The word HATH is in the “Present Tense” and it means to have “RIGHT NOW” and Always because the believer’s salvation is “ALWAYS” in the present.

In Conclusion:

John 5:24 says that upon belief in the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ that person is “Passed” from death unto life (eternal life), and remains in affect UNTIL the believer enters heaven

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT’S THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
