Question? We were going to a church where they taught that woman should “only” wear skirts & dresses to be modest based on 1 Timothy 2:9 What are your thoughts on this?
1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.
Answer:
Sadly to many churches (Baptist especially) teach a extreme view of this verse.
#1 – I do not believe in a dress code as I have stated in my question #121.
#2 – There are some people that cannot afford anything better then a pair of Jeans and Shirt.
#3 – I believe a person SHOULD wear the best that they have for the Lord.
1 Timothy 2:9 is simply saying that a woman SHOULD dress decently and respectfully and not in a way that DRAWS the sexual attention of the opposite sex but one that BRINGS HONOR to Christ, her husband (if married) and family and not shame, SADLY to many young women dress like Prositutes & Whores and then wonder why they get treated like one and only thought of as objects of sex.
Here is a hint: Ladies if you want a guy to treat you with respect THEN dress appropriately that COMMANDS RESPECT don’t advertise your body like a roadside billboard for all to see.
In Conclusion:
Bad teaching ALMOST without exception leads to other bad teachings.
Those that take an extreme view on 1 Timothy 2:9 also couple that verse with Deuteronomy 22:5 usually and teach views that are contrary and unfounded in scripture which in reality CAUSES more harm than good not only in their congregations but to the Body of Christ as a whole.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
