Question? Is there ANY PROOF that Jesus is mentioned in the O.T?
Answer:
If you are looking for the English spelling of the word you will not find it, BUT there are MANY Old Testament verses that do mention him, Such as the ones below just to name a few…
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
A SON = Jesus Christ, EMMANUEL = God with us… In other words God in human flesh.
John 1:1,14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Genesis 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
SHILOH = Jesus Christ.
Psalms 22:16,18 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. (18) They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
Matthew 27:35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
These are just a MERE FEW to the PLETHORA (large or excessive amount) of scriptures that give reference to Christ. Consider what Paul says in Romans 1:1-3…
Romans 1:1-3 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (2) (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) (3) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh.
The word AFORE in V2 is the Greek word PROEPAGGELLOMAI and it means PROMISE BEFORE or MENTION BEFORE.
HIS PROPHETS = The Old Testament preachers and christians.
The Apostle Paul SAID that God HAD PROMISED and MENTIONED BEFORE through the preaching of the Old Testament preachers (prophets) and by the testimony of other Old Testament christians TESTIFIED of Jesus Christ the coming Messiah (saviour).
NOW CONSIDER Peter’s Testimony in Acts 10:34 – 43…
Acts 10:34-43 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: (35) But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. (36) The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) (37) That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; (38) How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. (39) And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: (40) Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; (41) Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. (42) And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. (43) To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
Let’s FOCUS ON Verse 43…
– HIM = God.
– ALL THE PROPHETS = Every Christian and Preacher from Old Testament to the present.
– WITNESS = Testimony.
– HIS NAME = Jesus Christ.
– REMISSION = Complete Payment.
To RECAP V43 in short it could be read in this way…
God gave all the Old Testament preachers and christians testimony, that through Jesus Christ whosoever believeth in him shall receive Complete Payment of sins.
In Conclusion:
It becomes ABUNDANTLY CLEAR that Jesus Christ had been mentioned and testified of long before.
To deny that Jesus is not mentioned in the Old Testament is to deny the scripture in their entirety.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
