Question 550

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? What spiritual application can you give on Jeremiah 4:3?

Jeremiah 4:3 For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

Answer:

Chp 4 in Verse 1 we read that the Lord is dealing with the Nation of Israel.

TAKE NOTE that the Lord gives a condition If thou wilt return and put away thine abominations, then the Lord gives a promises then shalt thou not remove (be removed from the land).

A practical plausible application could be as follows…

Many christians, just like Israel have turned their back on the Lord for the cares and enticements of this world, the Lord PROMISES Blessings and Rewards for faithfulness.

1 Corinthians 3:14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

Fallow Ground by definition is land that has been tilled but has not been seeded and left to lie idle.

– Break Up fallow ground: Speaks of being prepared for use.

Just as a farmer has to plow the ground to prepare it for planting, the christian needs preparation through the Study, Learning, and Reading of God’s Word.

– Sow not among thorns: Thorns represents the sins and things that keep us from being fruitful or productive for the Lord.

1 John 2:15 states…

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

SADLY there are MANY people that are saved, they have trusted the Lord Jesus as their saviour BUT because of Sin and or the Cares of this Life they have BECOME ground that is in all reality IDLE SPIRITUALLY, They have neglected the Word and the Will of God
and are unseeded as far as being of any use for the Lord.

In Conclusion:

In John Chp. 13, Verses 4 through 15 Jesus gave us the object lesson of the fact that
even though we are saved we STILL NEED daily cleanseing from our sins that we COMMIT each day that hinder our service and fellowship with the Lord.

In Verse 8 Peter not understanding the spiritual application of Jesus words said… Thou shalt never wash my feet, in response Jesus stated… If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

In other words “Has NO FELLOWSHIP with the Lord, saved but of NO USE.

2 Timothy 2:20-21 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. (21) If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

If the christian DOES NOT want to be ground that has been left to lie idle then it behooves them to…

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God… Romans 12:2

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
