Question? The word UNCTION in 1 John 2:20 and what does it mean?
1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
Answer:
The Greek word for UNCTION is “Chrisma” and it means ANOINTING.
Charismatics, Pentecostals, and those of the Holiness movement churches GRAB HOLD
of this and EXPLOIT IT FALSELY and claim it to be a SO CALLED “Extra Blessing” (baptism) of the Holy Spirit, but this is NO SO.
The truth is… Every person that has Trust Christ ALONE and his payment for their sins IS ANOINTED. The word ANOINTING simply means INDWELLING, in other words every born again believer IS INDWELT by the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.
Let’s take a look at V27, which says…
1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
NOTICE the words “But the anointing (indwelling) which ye HAVE received of him” IS in the “Past Tense”.
Question? Who is him?, Answer: The Holy Spirit. As the verse goes on to say that this same ANOINTING (Holy Spirit) will teach us all things (the scriptures).
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
So according to 1 John 2:27 there is NO EXTRA so called blessings or baptisms of the Holy Spirit, There is ONLY ONE baptism of the Holy Spirit and that is the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit which happens the moment upon belief (trust alone) in the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ for payment of sin.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; (2) By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. (3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
