Question? What commandments was Jesus speaking of that we were to keep in John 14:15?
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Answer:
I believe the commandments spoken of here in the BROAD VIEW is referring to ALL of the Word of God and in the more GENERAL SENSE can be narrowed down to four specified areas.
– Reading, & Studying the Bible – 2 Timothy 2:15.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
– Praying – 1 Thessalonians 5:17, James 5:16.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
– Fellowshipping with other believers – Hebrews 10:25.
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
– Sharing the Gospel with the Lost – Mark 16:15.
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
These four are also known as the Four Talks…
#1 – As you read and study the scriptures God TALKS to you through them.
#2 – When you Pray you are TALKING to the Lord.
#3 – As you fellowship with other believers you TALK about the Lord and his Word.
#4 – We are to TALK to the unsaved by sharing the Gospel.
In Conclusion:
If the christian NEGLECTS one or more of these four areas they are REALLY DEPRIVING themselves the Joy, and the Peace that they could have in serving the Lord and honestly ROBBING THEMSELVES of all the Blessings and Rewards that God has waiting for them.
Jesus said in John 14:23…
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words:
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later
The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
