Question? Is Luke 9:62 about losing your salvation as some teach?
Answer:
No,
The one thing you must ALWAYS remember is that salvation / eternal life can NEVER be lost, ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED. – John 10:28, Ephesians 1:13
(John 10:28) And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
(Ephesians 1:13) In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.
Those that teach you can lose your salvation seem to TWIST every possible verse that they can to try to prove their FALSE DOCTRINE and Luke 9:62 is one of several they TRY to use they say that teaches losing your salvation.
The Three MOST IMPORTANT factors in bible interpretation is:
– WHO is the scriptures talking to or about.
– WHAT is the CONTEXT or subject the scriptures are refering to.
– DOES the interpertation agree with or contradict other scriptures that deal with the same subject or context.
Many of those that have ERRORED in Bible doctrine have VIOLATED one or all three of those factors.
In Luke 9:62
-The Lord Jesus is talking to the twelve disciples – V1 -the Who.
– The Lord Jesus had been talking to them about discipleship (being testimonies for him) – The What.
– The Lord Jesus NEVER confused salvation with service(living for him) – The Does.
The RIGHT interpretation of V62
– No Man having put his hand to the plough = Serving the Lord – IE. sharing the gospel, being GOOD testimony’s, living for the Lord ect.
– Looking Back = Stop serving the Lord.
– Fit For the Kingdom of God = Not having a place of honor BECAUSE of not serving the Lord.
As Christians we have the choice to put Christ first or not to put Christ first in our lives.
In 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 we are told that we will either RECEIVE a reward for our FAITHFUL service for the Lord Jesus or we will suffer LOSS for our failure to serve the Lord,
(1 Corinthians 3:11-15)
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (12) Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; (13) Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. (14) If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. (15) If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Verse 15 describes MANY Christians that will fall into that category, SAVED but have nothing to be rewarded by the Lord for.
IN CONCLUSION
Luke 9:62 IS NOT about losing your salvation, but about serving the Lord and don’t let ANYTHING (Looking Back) to make you stop serving the Lord and cause you to not have a place of honor(Fit For) in the Kingdom of God.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
