Question? Please explain John 15:22, what did the Lord meant by it?

(John 15:22) If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.

Answer:

To make it easier to understand, a cloak is a loosely fit sleeveless garment that was worn to conceal (Hide) a stolen item or an weapon such as a dagger, HENCE that is where we get our term for “Clock and Dagger”.

To tie this in to help us UNDERSTAND what the Lord meant in John 15:22, The Lord was saying that BECAUSE he had come, they COULD NOT hide/conceal (cloke) their sin.

What Sin?, Read Verse 23

(John 15:23) He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

The UNBELIEVING Jews had been successful in CLOAKING (hiding) their true HATRED for God the Father prior to Christ coming upon the scene. the religious leader were SELF RIGHTEOUS and made it well known how religious they were.

The Law COMMANDED the Jews to love the FATHER(God)

(Deuteronomy 6:5) And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

When Jesus Christ(God the Father in the flesh) had arrived, the religious leaders REALLY SHOWED there HATRED for the Father when they showed their HATRED for Christ and REJECTED him as their Messiah.

How did Jesus words UNCLOAK their sin, REMEMBER what he said in John 14:10

(John 14:10) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

ALSO it was further CONVICTION upon them when Christ REAVELED their true character when he CALLED THEM a generation of vipers, Serpents, Hypocrites, and Whited Sepulchres Full of Dead Men’s Bones.

(Matthew 12:34) O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

(Matthew 23:33) Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

(Matthew 23:27) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.

And that is HOW Christ REAVEALED (no cloke) for their SIN OF HATE of the truth that:

– Jesus was God in the flesh.

(John 10:33) The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

– Their Self-Righteousness

– Their Corrupt Practices

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to known IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
