Question? Should we observe Ash Wednesday and Lent?
Answer:
The observance of Ash Wednesday is PRIMARILY PRACTICED by the Roman Catholic Church and Lent is observed by many other denominations such as Lutherans, United Methodist, ect.
As with MOST CHURCH TRADITIONS Ash Wednesday and Lent are NOT FOUND in the Scriptures(Bible) we are NOT TOLD to even observe them, for the simple warning found in Colossians 2:8 to “BEWARE OF ANYTHING that is NOT AFTER Christ”. Therefore ANY church traditions, doctrines ect MUST BE SUPPORTED by scripture otherwise it is considered MAN MADE TRADITION and or more STRONGLY the DOCTRINE OF DEVILS(demons) – 1 Timothy 4:1.
To those who observe lent their CLAIM is that they are giving up or doing something for God, Let me just say this, to observer/practice lent biblicaly a person MUST DO what Jesus Christ did. He did not eat for 40 days and nights, he was tempted by satan during that time and DID NOT SIN – Matthew 4:1-11, Luke 4:1-13.
Just MY OWN OBSERVANCE I do not see anyone who observes or practices lent goes WITHOUT food for 40 days not to mention in having satan make a personal appearance to that individual to tempt them to give up all of the kingdoms of the world and bow down to worship him, in reality satan doesn’t have to work that hard most people are already his children for THEY ARE LOST and NOT SAVED a child of the devil(satan) – Matthew 23:15
In 1 John 4:1 the Bible tells us that we are to TEST(compare/Judge) the spirits (any gospel, teaching, doctrine, or tradition) whether they be of God, if what is being observed or practiced does not line up with the Word of Scripturaly or Doctrinaly, then we are commanded to in ROMANS 16:17 to MARK IT as false doctrine, or teaching and to AVOID IT and also TO COME OUT FROM AMONG IT BE YE SEPARATE SAITH THE LORD…2 Corinthians 6:17, & 14
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
A. Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
B. Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
C. BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell & the lake of fire); but the GIFT of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
