Question 158

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Does 2 Corinthians 5:17 mean I will not sin no more?

(2 Corinthians 5:17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Answer: A VERY BIG NO!!!

This verse has ALSO been twisted to mean something that it DOES NOT.

Many Preachers, & Churches alike interpret this verse to mean that a christian will never sin again because “old things are passed away”.

To put that kind of meaning or interpretation is LORDSHIP SALVATION my friend and SETTING UP anybody that places this type of FALSE understanding on this verse FOR A FALL.

The moment that a chrstian sins ESPECIALLY a new christian they are going to think that they were not saved or had lost their salvation because after all they were told and taught that “old things are passed away”. therefore would never sin again, This is TRAGIC at best and a Doctrine of Demons(devils) at its worst.

(1 Timothy 4:1,2) Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (2) Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.

The RIGHT interpretation of 2 Corithians 5:17

– Therefore if any man be in Christ:
In order to “BE IN” Christ a person MUST Trust Christ ALONE as their ONLY means of salvation and COMPLETE PAYMENT of their sins.

– He is a new creature: The moment a person places their TRUST ALONE IN Christ they RECIEVE the Holy Spirit, and that person at that point is a BABE (new creature) in the faith. in God’s eyes. Think of it this way, when a woman gives birth to a child that baby is a NEW CREATURE in the human race. The same is true for a new christian.

– Old things are passed away: This is in reference to ALL the past sins of the person that has Trusted In Christ Alone for salvation, God no longer remembers(are past away) and chooses to forget, nor holds them accountable for their sins that they had commited BEFORE they became saved.

(Hebrews 8:12) For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

(Psalms 103:12) As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

– Behold, all things are become new: This in reference to the fact that a new christian has a NEW START or BEGINNING in God’s eyes, this DOES NOT mean a christian will not sin or cannot sin because a person STILL HAS the old sinful nature that they were born with, God NEVER took that away (eradicated) the old nature but gave us a new nature (Holy Spirit) that would guide us in ways (IF YEILDED (obeyed) TO) that would please God.

In Conclusion:

This verse is NOT TEACHING that a person will not sin again, but what happens when a person Trust Christ Alone as their saviour, God gives them a NEW SLATE so to speak and what a WONDERFUL ASSURANCE that God WILL NEVER hold us accountable for ANY of our past sins BEFORE we were saved.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
