Question? Please give a brief overview of the Beatitudes?
(Matthew 5:3 – 11) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.(4) Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. (5) Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. (6) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (7) Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (8) Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. (9) Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (10) Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (11) Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Answer:
The Beatitudes were an OBJECT LESSON of the Law, for the very PURPOSE to teach a PRACTICAL APPLICATION of truth.
The Law consisted of 720 plus Laws that were categorized in detail in three sections.
The Law Comprised Of:
The Civil Law – Which Dealt with the settling of disputes between Individuals ect.
The Civil Law dictated the daily living of the Nation of Israel, the principles behind the civil laws and its commands guided their conduct.
The Ceremonial Law – Which Dealt with the Priestly initiations, Duties, and Procedures.
This Law POINTED FORWARD to Jesus Christ, the principles behind the ceremonial laws is to point to the worship of and love God.
The Moral Law – Which is Based on the character and commands of God,The Moral Law reveals the nature and the will of God and are guidelines for which to live in ways that are pleasing to God.
In the Old Testament IN ORDER to be DECLARED RIGHTEOUS (perfect) in God’s eyes a individual had to keep the Law PERFECTLY.
The Word of God states in:
(Galatians 3:24) Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
Galatians 3:24 TELLS US the Law was our school master (teacher) PROVING to us that it is humanly impossiable to keep it perfectly as God REQUIRES and its MAIN PURPOSE is to POINT US to Jesus Christ and trust alone in his Death, Burial, and Resurrection personally for the complete payment of our sins.
IN Conclusion:
Without going into a Laborious, Unwarranted detailed explaination of each and every Beatitude, The Beatitudes were simply basic obediances to what the Law demanded.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
