Question 204

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? What is meant by As a Thousand Years in 2 Peter 3:8?

(2 Peter 3:8) But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Answer:

This verse has had its MIS-USE and Abuse by some.

There are those that TRY TO USE this verse as proof that in the six creative days of Genesis Chapter one that each day must have been One Thousand years each, This Idea is know as the Day Age Theory which is refuted by scripture.

Refutations from scripture:

– Genesis 1:5 – Day – Hebrew Word YOM means DAY.

– Genesis 7:11, 8:4 – 24 hour time period.

– Genesis 4:3 – Means of time itself.

– Genesis 2:4 – All day collectively

– Genesis 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31, & Psalms 136:5, 8-9 – By Context

– Light and Darkness = 1 DAY

Any time YOU FIND a number before a DAY it is ALWAYS means 24 hour time period.

The Bible states in:

(Psalms 90:4) For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

2 Peter 3:8 and Psalms 90:4 are SIMPLY STATEING that God exsist OUTSIDE of time, he is NOT BOUND by time, he is the one that CREATED time for mankind.

You and me and everyone that has ever been born has a beginning (birth) and a end (death) God DOES NOT.

The Bible states in:

(Revelation 1:8) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

In Conclusion:

God IS NOT bound, controlled, or of need of time, this is how God can step into our lives and manipulate the outcome of any and all things at his will and command.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
