Question? Proverbs 23:23 has me stumped please explain?
(Proverbs 23:23) Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Answer:
The UNDERSTANDING of this verse is VERY SIMPLE and I’ll explain it in this way.
– Buy The Truth: This is refering to The Gospel and The Word of God.
Question – How do we buy the Gospel and the Word of God?
Answer – By BELIEVING, simply placeing OUR TRUST ALONE in them.
FIRST: In the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ for our ONLY MEANS of Eternal Life.
(John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(John 14:6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
SECOND: In the Word of God as the ONLY MEANS of Truth in the matters of Doctrine.
(Colossians 2:8) Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
(2 Timothy 3:16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
-Sell it Not: We are NOT TO COMPROMISE the Gospel, the Word of God, or the doctrines that are taught within its pages at ANY COST that is what is meant by “SELL NOT( the word “IT” is italicized, therefore not in the original manuscripts).
(Ephesians 6:11 – 17) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
(13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
(Romans 16:17) Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
– wisdom, and instruction, and understanding:
– WISDOM: That means comeing to the knowledge of truth of the Gospel.
(1 Timothy 2:4) Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
– INSTRUCTION: The learning of God’s Word and its Doctrines.
(2 Timothy 4:2) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
(2 Timothy 2:15) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
– UNDERSTANDING: The Application of God’s Word to our life and also in Practice.
(2 Timothy 3:16) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
In Conclusion:
BELIEVE the Gospel and ONLY the Word of God, by TRUSTING Christ Alone as saviour. BUY THE TRUTH.
DO NOT COMPROMISE the Gospel, the Word of God or the Doctrines taught within its pages, Stand Firm on THUS SAITH THE LORD, never give place to False Doctrine, False Teaching, or False Teachers. SELL NOT
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
