Question 257

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Why was Cain’s offering rejected and Abel’s accepted?

The answer is quite simple, Cain OFFERED the fruit of the ground(HIS WORKS).

(Genesis 4:3) And in process of time, it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.

Able OFFERED a BLOOD SACRIFICE (which was a typology of Christ dying and shedding his blood on the cross as complete payment for all sin).

(Genesis 4:4) And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering.

Both Cain and Able WERE TAUGHT that God would ONLY ACCEPT a blood sacrifice as payment for sin for God had DEMANDED it from their parents, Adam and Eve when they sinned and TRIED to offer THEIR WORKS (Fig Leaves) in which God HAD REJECTED.

(Genesis 3:7) And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons.

(Genesis 3:21) Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

The same is true today. People TRY TO OFFER to God THEIR WORKS to get themselves to heaven.

They WILL OFFER the following, THINKING it will or might help them get to heaven…

– Keep the ten commandments.
– Be sorry, confess, or turn from sin.
– Sincerely do your best.
– Stop Sinning.
– Do good or religious deeds.
– Give money to the church.
– Be water baptized as an infant or adult.
– Be confirmed in a church.
– Take communion, or pray the rosary.
– Trust Christ as Saviour & serve him.
– Ask Jesus into your heart.
– Make Christ, Lord of your life.
– Make Jesus, Master of your soul.
– Coming Foward in a Church.
– Laying all on the altar.

The TRUTH IS NONE OF THESE THINGS can help or get you to heaven.

The Bible states…

(John 14:6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

(Titus 3:5) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

(Ephesians 2:8,9) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (9) Not of works, lest any man should boast.

(Romans 4:5) But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Satan has been DECEIVING PEOPLE since the Garden of Eden with HIS LIES and WORKS PLUS FAITH salvation.

(Genesis 3:1) Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

(2 Corinthians 11:3) But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

SIMPLICITY = simply believing that Jesus Christ Died, Was Buried, and Resurrected from the grave three days later and trusting in that alone for eternal life as the complete payment for all your sins.

(1 Corinthians 15:1,3,4) Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; (3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.

(Acts 4:12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

(Acts 13:38,39) Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: (39) And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

(John 1:12) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.

(John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

In Conclusion:

God REJECTED Cain’s offering (his works for salvation) because IT WAS CONTRARY to what God DEMANDED and would accept for payment for sin.

(Genesis 4:5) But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

God ACCEPTED Abel’s offering (the blood sacrifice representing Faith Alone in the Blood of Christ alone for salvation) because IT WAS what God DEMANDED and would ONLY ACCEPT for payment for sin.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell, but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
