Question? Is having a Christmas Tree wrong?
Answer: In my opinion A BIG NO
There are SOME CHRISTIANS that think that having a Christmas Tree is wrong for the very reason that it is pagan.
I SAY TO THIS… Name me one holiday or celebration that IS NOT connected to a pagan background or history.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses AVOID ALL holidays and celebrations for their belief of this, but their favorite verse to quote for not having a Christmas Tree is Jeremiah 10:3 & 4…
(3) For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. (4) They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
KEEP IN MIND that Jeremiah Chapter 10 is IN REFERENCE to idol worship NOT CHRISTMAS TREES, In fact, the book of Jeremiah was wrote some 700+ years prior to Christ being born, and also there is NO KNOWN RECORDS of any of the early christians to have ever celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ (christmas). Therefore Jeremiah Chp.10 CANNOT be about christmas trees.
The Christmas Tree REPRESENTS Jesus Christ in this way…
– It is ALWAYS green, REPRESENTING his Eternal Existence.
(Revelation 1:8) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
(John 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
– The Lights and Ornaments, REPRESENT Christ as the Light of the World.
(John 8:12) Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
(John 9:5) As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
– The Garland REPRESENTS Christ Royalty.
(Hebrews 8:1) Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such a high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens.
(Hebrews 9:11) But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building.
– The Gifts under the tree REPRESENTS Christ Gift of Everlasting Life.
(Romans 6:23) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
(Ephesians 2:8, 9) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (9) Not of works, lest any man should boast.
In Conclusion:
The Bible states in Romans 14:5…
One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
If you as a christian have convictions about NOT HAVING a christmas tree than DON’T but do not base it on Jeremiah Chp.10:3, & 4, but rather on Romans 14:5.
But if you as the christian have NO CONVICTIONS in having a christmas tree than display one and explain to the children or grandchildren IF ANY on how the christmas tree REPRESENTS Jesus Christ and his Gift of Eternal Life TO ALL who will JUST BELIEVE.
(John 3:16, 17) – (16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (17) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
(Acts 16:31) And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
