Question 342

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Does the Bible say anything about Shamgar?

Judges 3:31 And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.

Judges 5:6
In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, and the travellers walked through byways.

Not much is known about him, he is only mentioned twice in the Book of Judges any other information written about him is purely historical speculative quess work.

Shamgar can be regarded as a typeology of the common christian who are virtually unknown.

There are MANY CHRISTIANS through out the course of time who’s names have been forgotten and never written down or reconized for anything in the annuals of man, but God NEVER FORGETS that is why there is a Book of Works and Life at theJudgement seats to keep track of all things.

Revelation 20:12
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

A good example to ponder on is this…

D. L. Moody’s sunday school teacher Mr Kimball in the back of the boot store where Mr Moody work as a young 18 year old boy told Moody how Christ loved him and died for him and right there D.L. Moody trusted Christ as his saviour and as they say “The rest is History” D.L. Moody became one of the GREATEST EVANGELIST of his time.

In Conclusion:

A little known sunday school teacher Mr Kimball just like Shamgar did a GREAT WORK for the Lord, but little else known.

Little did Mr Kimball realized at the time that 18 year old shoe salesman (D.L. Moody) WOULD BECOME the Prince of Evangelist who would lead THOUSANDS to Christ for salvation, GREAT will be Mr Kimball’s rewards in heaven.

The United States Marine Corps has a motto “The Few, The Proud” the Lord’s Army has one too “The Few and the Willing”.

So if you think yourself, church, or ministry to be of little recognition in the eyes of men, DON”T WORRY the Lord is keeping track, his data base (books) ARE ALWAYS being updated.

The Word of God states…

Zechariah 4:10
For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
