Question 366

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Sir, salvation has to be more than just by faith alone, right?

Answer:

To answer the question in short, the answer is a BIG NO!!!

the Bible states in Acts 16:31, & John 3:16

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

From these two verses the ONLY REQUIREMENT for salvation is for a person to do is simply BELIEVE.

Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ DIED and shed his blood on the cross, was BURIED, and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead PERSONALLY as the complete payment for their sins.

Just to be clear NOTHING can we do to add or otherwise to help get or keep our salvation.

Consider the following verses…

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (9) Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Romans 4:5
But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

TAKE NOTE of the following words from each of those verses…

Ephesians 2:8-9:
(8) Not of Yourselves, (9) Not of Works.

Titus 3:5:
Not by works of righteousness which we have done.

Romans 4:5:
But to him that worketh not.

The Bible makes it clear that salvation IS NOT by a works PLUS faith combination.

The moment a person adds one human merit, work, or deed regardless of how religious it is makes salvation then at that point one of Works PLUS Faith which the Bible condems.

Heaven is a PERFECT PLACE and God WILL NOT allow anything that is not perfect to enter in and the ONLY WAY we can get that needed perfection that God requires is by Trusting Christ ALONE as our saviour Believeing that the Lord Jesus Christ DIED and shed his blood on the cross, was BURIED, and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead PERSONALLY as the complete payment for their sins.

Revelation 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

A simple understanding of 2 Corinthians 5:21 is as follows…

– For He =
God

– Made Him =
Jesus Christ

– To be sin for us = Paid for our sins on the cross

– Who knew no sin = Who is Absolutely Righteous, Perfect, had NO sin

– That we might be made the righteousness of God = Those who believe and place their faith alone in Jesus Christ payment for their sins on the cross at that point God places Christ Perfection (Righteousness) on their account God NO LONGER sees their sins but see Christ Righteousness (Perfection) through the lens of the cross and Christ shed blood.

– In Him = Only through Jesus Christ

IN CONCLUSION:

To sum it all up as the bible simply states…

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

BELIEVE and have the assurance of having eternal life.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins. the MOMENT you believe(TRUST in Christ ALONE) you recieve eternal life.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
