Question 371

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Matthew 21:44, what did Jesus mean?

Matthew 21:44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

Answer:

Matthew 21:44 has Two Elements a Positive and a Negative

The Lord Jesus was referring to himself as THIS STONE.

Scripture speaks of Christ as the CHIEF CORNERSTONE.

Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.

1 Peter 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

The Positive:

“Whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken”. SPEAKING OF salvation.

To make it easier to understand lets break it down.

– Whosoever shall fall on this stone= Whoever places there Faith in Christ ALONE (Fall on this Stone) as savior.

– Shall be broken= (Broken in the sense of) Realizing that they CANNOT “be good enough” or “Do enough good works” to earn heaven.

The Negative:

“But on whomsoever it shall fall it will grind him to powder”=SPEAKING OF going to hell.

– But on whomsoever it shall fall= is in reference to the fact that a person already has the Judgement of “Going to hell” (it shall fall) placed on them if they DO NOT trust Christ as saviour.

The very moment a person dies WITHOUT CHRIST the Judgement of going to hell for eternity FALLS upon them.

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

– It will grind him to powder.

When the unsaved person stands before Christ as his or her Judge and the Degree of Torment in the Lake of Fire is placed upon them the REALIZATION of that Judgement and the DEVASTATING words “Depart from me, I never knew you” WILL Grind them to powder with the crushing reality of the JUST JUDGEMENT for rejecting Christ.

Revelation 20:11-15 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. (12) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. (13) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. (14) And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (15) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins. the MOMENT you believe(TRUST in Christ ALONE) you recieve eternal life.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
