Question 446

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? What does it mean “Let the dead bury the dead” in Luke 9:60?

Luke 9:60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

This verse means to let the Spiritualy dead (Lost, Unsaved) people bury those that have passed on (died) from this Physical World BECAUSE, take notice of the rest of the verse that the emphasis was on doing Serving the lord by Preaching the Gospel (Kingdom of God).

John 6:28-29 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? (29) Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom (Jesus Christ – 1 Cor. 15:1-4, John 3:16) he hath sent.

John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, (Jesus Christ – 1 Cor. 15:1-4, John 3:16) may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Take Note in V59 that Jesus said “FOLLOW ME”

Luke 9:59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer (Gr. EPITREPO = Allow) me first to go and bury my father.

We ARE NOT to follow Christ for salvation for that would ADD WORKS to the Gospel as SO MANY have Falsely Added.

Following Christ is FOR SERVICE, We are to Follow Christ AFTER we are saved for Blessings and Rewards NOT to get saved.

SADLY like the man in V59 MANY christians put or allow the cares of this world to take priority in their lives and put serving the Lord on the back burner and then they wonder why things in their life get all messed up and nothing seems to go right, The lest a christian SHOULD DO is Give the Lord their best after all he has done for them.

In Conclusion:

Let the dead bury the dead, or just simply in other words concentrate on “Doing the Lord’s Will” the christian that does WILL REAP Great Benefits for doing so.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
