Answer:
My opinion, It is SATANIC, a doctrine and practice of Demons – 1 Timothy 4:1.
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils(demons).
NOTE: There is ONLY ONE devil which is Satan (Lucifer) BUT there are MANY demons (fallen angels).
There are about 125 Churches in the United States (MOSTLY around where Kentucky and Tennessee border together that PRACTICE snake handling. They ALL TRY to claim Mark 16:18 as their KEY TEXT for doing what they do BUT there is one problem, THEY IGNORE to take heed to the five words found in this verse “It shall not hurt them”.
NOTE: These five words are written in the DOUBLE NEGATIVE or Absolute sense.
It shall not: is the Gr. word OUME and it means Not at all, Never, By any or no means, Nor ever.
Hurt: is the Gr word BLAPTO and it means INJURE.
Mark 16:18 should be rendered as such…
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall Not at all, Never, By any or no means, Nor ever INJURE them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
The scriptures make clear THAT IF what these churches (such as The Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name – Pastor Cody Coots – Middlesboro, Kentucky and Tabernacle Church of God – Pastor Andrew Hamblin – Lafollette, Tennessee) are teaching and practicing is sound doctrine THEN those “Bitten By” those poisonous snakes SHALL NOT at all, Never, By any or no means, Nor ever be injured by them.
NOTE: As stated in the Greek NOTHING will happen to them No Pain no nothing in the slightest.
BUT SADLY this is not so, Jamie Coots (Cody’s Coots father) who was the former pastor of The Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name – in Middlesboro, Kentucky DIED from a bite from a Timber Snake that they use in their church services SHOWING and PROVING that the sign gifts are NO LONGER in operation because he should not have died if the opposite was true.
Prior to dieing from a snake bite in 2004 Pastor Jamie Coots (Pastor Cody Coots father) had lost a part of a finger from a snake bite which is CONTRARY to what Mark 16:18 says.
NOTE: I “do not care” how many times a person has been “Bitten By” a poisonous snake or how much of a SO CALLED poisonous substance a person CLAIMS to have drank, that only shows one thing that God had mercy upon their ignorant souls and NOT ALLOWING them to suffer the consequences of their UNBIBLICAL, UNSOUND teachings and practices not that they are in the will of God or have no sin in there life READ 1 John 1:8…
1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
In Conclusion:
False interpretations of scripture LEAD TO bad and extreme UNSOUND teaching and practices that at the VERY WORST damns a person to hell and at the very lest corrupts their mind from the truth of God’s word.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
