Question? I’m been having trouble in understanding some verses in Psalms Chp. 69, in particular Versus 22,23, & 27 ANY help would be appreciated, thanks?
Answer:
Psalms 69 is known as a Messianic Psalm, in V21 it mentions what was given to Christ for his thirst when he was on the cross.
Psalms 69:21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
Matthew 27:34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
V 22 says… Let their table become a snare before them:
This is speaking of unbelief. They are SNARED, trapped, by their own false beliefs that they have been taught and have accepted as truth either by deception, ingorance, or by willful rejection of the scriptures.
– and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap:
The word WELFARE is the hebrew word SHAW LOME which means PEACE, But because of Unbelief (not trusting Christ as his payment for sin) they have REJECTED “The Peace – Romans 5:1” that they could have had in knowing that their sins are “Paid in Full” and have the “Full Assurance” – 1 John 5:13 that they are going to heaven when they die but rather have been decieved by satan THROUGH their own unbelief into going to hell.
Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
V23 states… Let their eyes be darkened that they see not:
This is speaking of being blind to the Gospel.
2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Also let’s look at…
Acts 28:27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
– and make their loins continually to shake:
I believe this is speaking of when the lost are brought up out of from torment (hell) – Luke 16:19-25.
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: (20) And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, (21) And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. (22) And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; (23) And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. (24) And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
to stand before the Lord Jesus as their Judge to receive their degree of punishment in the Lake of Fire – Revelation 20:11-15.
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. (12) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. (13) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. (14) And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (15) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
what a terrifying moment it will be for them when they hear those devastating words… DEPART FROM ME – Matthew 7:23, 25:41.
Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.
V 27 Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.
Iniquity means SIN, and because of their Rejection of Christ and the Gospel the lost person has added the UNPARDONABLE SIN.
NOTE… The Unpardonable Sin is the sin of Unbelief, the sin of not trusting Christ and his payment alone for your sins – see my Q & A #41. If person dies WITHOUT having trusted Christ and his payment alone for their sins they have committed the Unpardonable sin (died in unbelief) and upon that moment they are for eternity denied entrance into heaven.
In Conclusion:
Therefore V 28 says… Let them be blotted out of the book of the living (book of Life – Revelation 20:15, and not be written with the righteous.
And V24 tells of the FINAL eternal destiny that awaits them in hell that the unsaved person has chosen.
Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.
Hebrews 10:31 says… It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
