Question 589

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? I know a Vietnam Veteran (who got saved after the war) HAS always wondered why God allowed him to live but not some of his buddies, could you comment on this?

Answer:

From what I understand ALOT of Vietnam Vets CARRY this guilt feeling that in someway and somehow they have DISHONORED their buddies by surviving and returning home alive,SOME feel that they should have been the ones to have died or at least have died along with them.

As you mentioned they got saved AFTER the war, I can think of at least 3 reasons WHY that God probably kept them alive, BUT, there could be more only God knows.

Reason #1 – God is All Knowing, he knows all who will and who will not DESIRE to know the truth and Trust Christ as saviour.

Isaiah 42:9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

It is God’s responsibility to “Keep that person alive” UNTIL the truth of the Gospel and the Word of God has been given to them.

Reason #2 – It wasn’t their time to die.

Hebrews 9:27 tells us that we all have an appointed time for our death that we don’t know the Day, The Hour, or The Year (unless it is by Suicide).

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.

Reason #3 – The Lord would like to use a Veteran to reach other Veterans for Christ.

Only a Veteran can TRULY UNDERSTAND the Mental, and the Emotional scars of another Veteran, ESPECIALLY of those that have been in combat or have fought in a war together that is a bond and brotherhood like no other which is NEARLY impossible to break and it only makes common sense that the Lord would want to use a Veteran to reach out WITH the Gospel to other Veterans for they speak their language (experience wise) and share that common bond.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
