Question 631

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? What, or Who is the Green Tree, and the Dry in Luke 23:31 Thankyou?

Luke 23:31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

Answer:

The Green Tree is a typology of an innocent person, in this case, Jesus is using it as an earthly illustration in reference to himself.

The Context of this verse is established by the previous Twenty verses where Christ was taken before Pontius Pilate to be Falsely accused, Tried, and Crucified (Verse 1).

Three different times (Luke 23:4,14, 22, John 18:38) Pilate said “I find no fault in this man”. Even Pilate’s wife said to him… “Have thou nothing to do with that just man” – Matthew 27:19

The Dry is a typology of a guilty person, MEANING… there is nothing good in them, they are all DRIED UP as far as having ANY TRUTH in them.

So the the meaning is best understood as to what Jesus was saying when examined through the light of that context… Jesus said…

– For if they do these things in a green tree… MEANING… If they (the Roman & Religious Authorities) are willing to put him (Jesus Christ) an innocent person to death on the basis of no wrong doing – Verse 14.15…

(14) I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him. (15) lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.

Then just imagine what they would do to a person that was guilty of the things that he was being FALSELY ACCUSED of.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as YOUR savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou (you) shalt (will) be saved – Acts 16:31

The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
