Question Eighty Eight

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Can you briefly explain the core beliefs of Calvinism?

The CORE belief of calninism is a FALSE DOCTRINE called Predestination.

Presdestination is TAUGHT by those that BELIEF that God choses some people to go to Heaven and choses some to go to Hell. This is CONTRARY to scripture.

(2 Peter 3:9) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Take NOTICE what 2 Peter 3:9 says – The Lord is NOT WILLING that ANY should perish(go to hell) but that “ALL” should come to repentance.

The word REPNTANCE is the Greek word METANOIA and it means a CHANGE OF MIND.

A change of mind from what? from the FALSE belief of what WE think will get us to heaven to TRUSTING in Christ ALONE and his finshed work / complete payment on the on the cross for our sins.

Calvinism TEACHES contrary to 2 Peter 3:9, their CLAIM is that God choses some to go to hell but as 2 Peter 3:9 states that God desires NONE should go to hell but that ALL come to a CHANGE OF MIND, quite a difference from what the bible says and what calvinism teaches.

Clavinist hold to a belief system called T.U.L.I.P

This is a acronym which stands for:

(T)otal Depravity
(U)nconditional Election
(L)imited Atonement
(I)rresistible Grace
(P)erserverance of the Saints

The basic understanding of TULIP is:

Total Depravity = Because of mankinds’ sin and sinful state man is beyond hope.

Unconditional Election = God determines a person’s final destiny Heaven or Hell.

Limited Atonement = The Lord Jesus ONLY died for those that he chose to save.

Irresistible Grace = The Chosen / Elected individual CANNOT reject the Lord’s salvation

Perserverance of the Saints = Those that show EVIDENCE of salvation / saving faith are saved eternally.

When EXAMINING calvinist beliefs / teachings and COMPARING them with what the bible says we find that they are in DIRECT CONFLICT with the Word Of God.

1. No one is beyond hope of salvation.

(2 Peter 3:9) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

(John 5:24) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

2. The Individual NOT God that determines if they go to heaven or hell.

(John 3:18) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

(John 3:36) He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

3. Christ died for ALL not just a few.

(John 3:16,17) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

(17) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

(Romans 5:8) But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

4. God SAVES eternally ANY and ALL who place their TRUST in Christ Finished Work(Death Burial, Resurrection) ALONE on the cross as the COMPLETE PAYMENT for their sins REGARDLESS if that individual has ANY EVIDENCE of salvation or saving faith.

(1 Corinthians 3:11-15)

For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (12) Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; (13) Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. (14) If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. (15) If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
