Question? When Jesus said before he died that it is finished, did he mean exactly that?

(John 19:30) When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Answer:

YES,

In John 19:30 Jesus Christ said “it is Finished ” the Lord Jesus had COMPLETELY PAID the required and exact payment and penalty for OUR sins. The Lord Jesus took OUR place and ALLOWED himself to be separated from God the Father – Matthew 27:46, Mark 15:34.

(Matthew 27:46) And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

(Mark 15:34) And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Christ suffered the hell of the cross so that WE ( if you or I will just simply place our COMPLETE trust alone in Christ as our saviour and payment for ALL OUR sins) by just believing that the Lord Jesus Christ Died, was Buried, and three days later Resurrected from the dead wouldn’t have to SUFFER the torments of hell for eternity.

There is NOTHING that we can add or do to obtain eternal life.

In John 3:16 God GAVE his begotten Son (Jesus Christ) God OFFERS eternal life as a GIFT -Ephesians 2:8,9 (a GIFT CANNOT be bought but ONLY received).

(John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

In John 1:12 God GIVES us the RIGHT(power) to be his child (sons)ONLY AFTER we have TRUSTED(believed) on Christ ALONE as OUR COMPLETE PAYMENT for sin (as many received him).

(John 1:12) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Therefore when we TRY to offer ANYTHING in place of faith alone in Christ for OUR salvation regardless how sincere it is, God WILL NOT accept it because OUR salvation required the ABSOLUTE SINLESS BLOOD of Christ to pay for OUR sins on the cross.

– Water Baptism DOES NOT save

– Good Works DOES NOT save

– Doing Good Deeds or Religious / Humanitarian merits DOES NOT save

– Trusting in Christ PLUS whatever DOES NOT save

The ONLY thing that SAVES and GIVES eternal life is:

Faith ALONE in the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ

Trusting in that and that ALONE for salvation.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins. the MOMENT you believe(TRUST in Christ ALONE) you receive eternal life.

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

–BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
