Question Twenty-Six

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? What does it mean that the thief is come to steal, kill and destroy in John 10:10?

Answer:
The thief is referring to Satan,

Satan is called a Serpent, In Genesis 3:1, he is also called the Great Dragon & Old Serpent in Revelation 12:9, then in John 8:44 he is refereed to as a Murderer and a Liar, ALL THESE represent Satan’s characteristics.

In 1 Peter 5:8 he is called a Roaring Lion and he is walking about SEEKING WHOM he may devour(eat up in sin), that is WHY we are told to be SOBER(sound minded doctrinal) and to be VIGILANT(stead fast in the faith – Eph.6:11-17, Jude 3) as John 10:10 states that Satan (the thief) has come to Steal, Kill, and Destroy. What do those all represent?

Keep in mind a christian CANNOT LOSE THEIR SALVATION, after they have trusted Christ ALONE as the COMPLETE PAYMENT for their sins and Satan KNOWS THIS (John 3:16, 10,28,29, Ephesians 1:13,14) so therefore he (Satan) attacks the christian in THREE WAYS… here is a simple outline…

1.Steal- The Christian’s Joy and Peace of their salvation and service to God – Romans 5:1

2. Kill- The Christian’s Testimony and Effective witness for Christ – 1 Peter 5:8

3. Destroy- The Christian’s Physically, Mentally, and Spiritually and if ALL POSSIBLE kill the christian DEAD through sin (John 8:44, Romans 6:16).

The second half of John 10:10 finishes with that He(Christ) has come (to earth, to die on the cross for us) that we might have life (eternal life in FAITH ALONE in Christ ) and have it MORE ABUNDANTLY.

Christ NOT ONLY came to DIE and SHED HIS BLOOD on the cross to COMPLETELY PAY for our sins in full (in which that payment is ONLY PUT TO OUR ACCOUNT the moment we BELIEVE(trust in completely Personally) in Christ finished work on the cross ALONE for salvation) but he also came to give us a life that was JOYOUS, MEANINGFUL and WORTH LIVING…

The ABC’s of Salvation:

A. Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

B. Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

C. BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell & the lake of fire); but the GIFT of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
