Question 564

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? John 3:8 has always been a stumbling block for me, could you kindly shed some light on it if you can, Thank – You?

John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Answer:

The context of Chp, 3 begins with Nicodemus a Pharisee seeking during the night (see V2) to find out who Jesus really was.

After Finding Jesus, the Lord gets right to the heart of the matter, Nicodemus’s eternal state (see V3).

In V9 we learn that Nicodemus had NO CLUE to what the Lord was telling him, therefore in consequence in V10 the Lord Jesus scolded him for his ignorance, for he (Nicodemus), being a TEACHER of the scriptures a Pharisee SHOULD HAVE known that the scriptures spoke of him (the Lord Jesus Christ) as their (the Jews / Nation of Israel) saviour their coming Messiah.

In Verse 8 I believe the Lord Jesus is using an earthly example to teach a spiritual truth, The Lord used the wind for his example, Just as a person CANNOT see the wind the same thing is true of the Holy Spirit, no one can see the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the person that has trusted in Christ as their saviour and I believe this was the point that Jesus was making.

NOTE: There are some that TEACH FALSELY that the proof of salvation is the outward evidence of what they call Saving or Genuine Faith this is nothing more than heresy and Jesus taught just the opposite.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
