Question 117

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Is prayer that important sir?

Answer:

YES IT IS, in fact the word prayer is found 107 times and the word pray is found 306 times in the bible, so as far I am concern if a word, or phrase is mentioned that many times it MUST mean that it is VERY IMPORTANT to God.

(James 5:16) Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

NOTICE the last ten word of James 5:16 “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”

NOTICE the THREE key words in those last ten words:

-EFFECTUAL FERVENT – Greek: ENERGEO meaning ACTIVE, & MIGHTY

-AVAILETH – Greek ISCHUO meaning CAN DO

IN ESSENCE James 5:16 is saying that the “Active and Mighty prayer of a righteous (SAVED) man CAN DO much”

We are told in scripture to:

– Continue in Prayer – Colossians 4:3

(Colossians 4:2) Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving.

– Be careful for nothing but everything in Prayer – Philippians 4:6

(Philippians 4:6) Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

– Pray without ceasing(interruption) – 1 Thessalonians 5:17

(1 Thessalonians 5:17) Pray without ceasing.

and Just for FOOD for thought…

The WHOLE book of Psalms is primarily made up of prayers to God by King David.

Prayer is HOW we communicate to the Lord, FAILING to pray is to :

1. DISOBEY God and his word.

2. PREVENT us from knowing God’s will for our lives.

If you are NOT communicating (PRAYING) to the Lord then how to you expect to receive answers for situations or concerns that you have or come upon.

Prayer is VERY IMPORTANT, and the Lord WANTS US to communicate with him through prayer.

Now on the other-side of the coin OUR PRAYERS can be hindered by sin.

(James 4:3) Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Our prayer life SHOULD always be a time were we can be honest with the Lord to:

– CONFESS our faults – 1 Joh 1:9

(1 John 1:9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

– PRAY for others – James 5:16

(James 5:16) Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

– ASK for healing or guidance – James 4:2, 5:16

(James 4:2) Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

IN CONCLUSION

Prayer SHOULD be a IMPORTANT part of every believer’s DAILY ROUTINE
because we ALL HAVE:

– Sins that need to be confessed and be cleansed from.

– Friends & Family we know that NEED or prayers.

– Needs of healing or guidance.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to known IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
