Question 118

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Are we to pray the Lord’s Prayer?

(Matthew 6:9-13)

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. (10) Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. (11) Give us this day our daily bread. (12) And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. (13) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Answer:

NO,

This Prayer is called the Kindom Prayer. The Book of Matthew is called the Kindom Book BECAUSE the KING (Jesus Christ) was at hand (here). This prayer will be prayed by christians during the Seven Year Tribulation Period.

The Lord GAVE this prayer as a Model or Example. We are to PRAY the elements of this prayer, but NOT the prayer its self.

NOTICE the First three words of V10 “THY KINGDOM COME”, The Christian prayer today is “EVEN SO COME LORD JESUS” not thy kingdom come, christians are LOOKING and WAITING for the rapture.

(Revelation 22:20) He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Take NOTICE of V11 – “Give us this day our daily bread”. FOOD during the seven year tribulation period ESPECIALLY in the latter part will be VERY SCARCE, and after the Anti – Christ DECLARES himself to be God at the middle(3-1/2 years) of the tribulation period he will DEMAND that everybody will take his MARK 666, and WITHOUT that mark NO – ONE will be able to BUY, SELL, or whatever without it.

(Revelation 13:16-18)

And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: (17) And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. (18) Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six (666).

V13 – “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”

The word LEAD gives us the WRONG IMPRESSION or Idea and it would be better translated as LEAVE, The book of James 1:13 -14 tells us that God DOES NOT tempt man.

(James 1:13,14) Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: (14) But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

V13 SHOULD be translated as: “And LEAVE us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”

The Evil that is refered to is Satan, those Christians are petitioning the Lord for DELIVERENCE from satan, and all those things that he controls. COMPARE that with Revelation 6:9-10 where these christians WHO have been beheaded for the witnessing for Christ are CRYING OUT to the Lord.

(Revelation 6:9,10) And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: (10) And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

In Conclusion:

In Many Churches and Funerals the Lord’s Prayer is OFTEN recited without explaination or understanding, BUT the Bible says we are NOT to use VAIN REPETITIONS.

(Matthew 6:7) But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

We are to pray for:

– Our Daily Bread – Physical (food), and Spiritual (Word of God).

– Leave us not into Temptation – Give us strength to NOT give in to sin.

– Deliever us from Evil – a way to ESCAPE out from satan’s grip on us THROUGH sin.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to known IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
