QUESTION 189

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Why did God allow King Solomon to have so many wives?

Answer:

To show how FOOLISH man can be, God ALLOWED it but he certainly DID NOT condone it.

King Solomon PAID a heavy price for his disobedience to God’s Word.

King Solomon SUFFERED the consequences for his LUST of the flesh, LUST of the eyes and the PRIDE of life.

(1 John 2:16) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

God had ALREADY established his COMMAND to only have ONE wife way back in the Garden of Eden.

(Genesis 2:24) Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

TAKE NOTICE it says wife NOT wives.

The Lord RE – MENTIONED his command of only ONE WIFE several times in scripture, SHOULD man would forget.

(Deuteronomy 17:17) Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

(1 Timothy 3:2) A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach.

(Titus 1:5, 6) For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
(6) If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

God LAID OUT the principle of ONE MAN for ONE WOMAN from the beginning BECAUSE he knew the complications and troubles man would incur as the results of his DESIRES of the flesh.

King Solomon was DRAWN AWAY from serving and living for the Lord BECAUSE of all those women he had married.

(1 Kings 11:1, 2) But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites; (2) Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.

King Solomon at the end of his life AFTER many, many years out of Fellowship and the Will of God he wrote in Ecclesiastes 1:2

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

In other words AFTER ALL the RICHES(money, wealth), PLEASURES(sex) and everything else this world had to offer, all he could say was Empty, Empty, all is Empty.

King Solomon had CREATED a hole in his soul, He TRIED to fill it up with all the things of this life but found it to be wanting at best all the while NEGLECTING the one and ONLY person that could have filled that hole, the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Conclusion:

King Solomon BROUGHT many woes upon himself, BECAUSE of his WILLFUL disobedience and his FAILURE to abide by the Will Of God he fell out of fellowship with the Lord God WHO had to take SEVERE ACTION and take away his right to be King of Israel.

(1 Kings 11:11) Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.

APPARENTLY King Solomon DID NOT learn from what had happen to another previous King of Israel namely King saul WHO also DID NOT obey the Lord.

(1 Samuel 15:26 – 28) And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel. (27) And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent. (28) And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
