Question? Is there a simple application to Psalm 1:1?
(Psalms 1:1) Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Answer: YES.
When it comes to sin there is ALWAYS that element of DOWNWARD progression into its grips IF left UNCHECKED.
We are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are BORN SINNERS.
(Romans 5:12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.
The old sin nature ALWAYS wants to PLEASE ITSELF, and for the christian there is a battle that goes on inside of them between the Old and the New nature and it depends on the christian of which one they will yield to (allowed to be controled by).
The nature that the christian yields to or allowed to be controlled by WILL BE the stronger of the two.
(Galatians 5:17) For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
The simple application to Psalms 1:1 is this:
In Psalms 1:1 take note of the DOWNWARD progressing into sin.
– Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly.
The Christian is BLESSED for not listening to the counsel (advice) of the unsaved.
(Numbers 31:16) Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.
The FIRST MISTAKE the christian can make is HEEDING to the UNWISE ADVISE from the unsaved.
– ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners.
The Christian is BLESSED for not keeping close company (standeth in the way) with the unsaved.
(Ephesians 5:8) For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.
The SECOND MISTAKE the christian can make is by BECOMING best friends with the unsaved. In order to be LIKED BY THEM you have to BE LIKE THEM.
NOTE: I am NOT SUGGESTING that we don’t ever become friends with the lost, we need to in order to gain their trust and confidence for the WHOLE PURPOSE of leading them to the Lord for salvation.
(Ephesians 5:17) Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
– nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
The Christian is BLESSED for not doing the same type of activites (sitteth in the seat) that the unsaved do that would give doubt to their testimony.
(Ephesians 5:10) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
The THIRD MISTAKE the christian can make is to BLEND IN with the lost in regards to in the same typeof Manner of Living, Talking, and Activities as the unsaved.
The FOURTH and WORST MISTAKE the christian can make is to NEVER make it known to the unsaved that they themselves(The Christian) are saved and NEVER share the gospel with them.
RECAP of Psalms 1:1
The DOWNWARD SPIRIAL into sin starts with:
– WALKING in sin – Mild to Light dabbling
– STANDING in sin – Moderate to Medium indulgence.
– SITTING in sin – Heavy to Completely Captivated.
In Conclusion:
The Lord THROUGH his Word says we are blessed FOR NOT allowing sin to have any influence, hold or control over our lives.
The Bible states in:
(Ephesians 5:11) And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
