Question 217

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? What does it mean You don’t have many fathers in 1 Corinthians 4:15?

(1 Corinthians 4:15) For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

Answer:

The answer to the question is is this:

Verse 15 states, you might have MANY Bible Teachers (Instructers) etc. that you learn the Word of God from but you ONLY have one or a few (you have not many) People (fathers in the Faith) that were INSTRUMENTAL in leading you to Faith Alone in Christ.

A GOOD EXAMPLE of this is found in Philemon 1:10:

(Philemon 1:10) I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds.

The Apostle Paul had lead Onesimus to a SAVING FAITH in Christ.

Onesimus was the Apostle Paul’s son IN THE FAITH, in other words the Apostle Paul FATHERED Onesimus by the Gospel.

When a Christian leads a person to FAITH ALONE in Christ that person in essence BECOMES their FATHER and the person that was saved BECOMES a Son or Daughter in the Faith TO THAT CHRISTIAN.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
