Question 248

Question? What did Jesus mean by Put away thy Sword?

Answer:

That recorded phrase is found in Matthew 26:52 which states…

Matthew 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

The person that Jesus told this to was the Apostle Peter…

John 18:10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.

The QUICK REPREHEND of the Lord Jesus for Peter’s actions (Peter THOUGHT he was doing good by trying to defend his Lord) was pointing out a truth that in reality Satan was using Peter’s finite human ignorance of the eternal spiritual consequences of his (Peter’s) actions.

What Jesus meant by Put up again thy sword, for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword was by the sword you are keeping me from going to the cross to die and shed my blood as payment for sin, if by that sword you (Peter) to prevent me from going to the cross to die and shed my blood as payment for sin you will go to hell.

In Conclusion:

The Bible states …

Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Without Christ going to the cross to shed his RIGHTEOUS, SINLESS blood as payment for sin, then NOBODY could go to heaven.

ONLY THROUGH the shed blood of Christ can our sins be washed white as snow.

Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
