Question? What did Paul mean that we should remain unmarried like him?
Answer:
The quote in question is found in 1 Corinthians 7:6-8…
(6) But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. (7) For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. (8) I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.
There purpose of Paul for writing this was that there was GREAT PERSECUTION of christians at the time and that it would be better to remain unmarried because of this but if the person could not handle of being unmarried then Paul by inspiration said that it was better to get married then to burn, meaning IN LUST and to be taken over by sexual temptations.
(1 Corinthians 7:9) But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
(2 Timothy 2:22) Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
The Apostle Paul was speaking from his point of view (V6) of the fact of his situation of constantly traveling to preach and the constant threats, beatings and imprisonments he suffered from preaching the Gospel.
(2 Corinthians 11:23 – 26) Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. (24) Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. (25) Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; (26) In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren.
Now IF the Apostle Paul HAD BEEN married it would have been a emotional burden, fear, and worry on that woman’s mind for his safety, and well being and of Paul’s also for her’s.
In Conclusion:
Those that HATED PAUL influenced by satan and his army of demons WOULD HAVE used Paul’s wife as a control instrument to get him to shut his mouth and to compromise the Gospel had he been married and if he didn’t they would have tortured first and then killed her to get him (Paul) to stop.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
