Question? What does the Bible word Dross mean?
Answer:
The word DROSS is mention seven times in the Old Testament.
Psalms 119:119 Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross: therefore I love thy testimonies.
Proverbs 25:4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
Proverbs 26:23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.
Isaiah 1:22 Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:
Isaiah 1:25 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:
Ezekiel 22:18 Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver.
Ezekiel 22:19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.
The word DROSS carries the meaning of IMPURITY.
a practical application of the meaning and implication of the word Dross is this…
We ALL as a people are IMPURE in Thought, Deed, and Action.
The Bible declares…
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
A perfect bible example of explaining the word DROSS is found in John 13:3 – 15
John 13:3-15 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; (4) He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. (5) After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. (6) Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? (7) Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. (8) Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. (9) Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. (10) Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. (11) For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. (12) So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? (13) Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.(14)If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.(15) For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
I believe that the example the Lord is giving us (Verse 15) is the fact that even though we are saved eternally, we still NEED daily cleansing from the sins (DROSS) that we commit each and every day.
1 John 1:8 – 10 says:
(1 John 1:8 – 10) (8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us (9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
In Conclusion:
God has a open door policy, in verse 9 he tells us that if we WILL CONFESS our sins then he will forgive us and RESTORE our fellowship with him.
To get back on the starting line of fellowship with the Lord every christian then needs to go to him in prayer.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins. the MOMENT you believe(TRUST in Christ ALONE) you recieve eternal life.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
