Question 409

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Why is Jesus called the Son of Man in one place and the Son of God in others?

Answer:

In the Four Gospels Jesus refers to himself 89 times as “The Son of Man”.

On a side note the Four Gospels give us a four sided composite view of Christ. They are as follows…

– MATTHEW:

Emphasises the Kingship of Christ – Geneologies from Abraham to Joseph – Chapter 1, V2-16.

– MARK:

Emphasises the Servantude of Christ – No Geneologies, a servants heritage is of No Importance.

– LUKE:

Emphasises the Humanity of Christ – Geneologies from Heli back to Adam – Chapter 3, V23 – 38.

– JOHN:

Emphasises The Diety of Christ – No Geneologies, God has no beginning or end.

The term “Son of Man” identifies the Lord Jesus as the representative of man in general.

He is OUR SUBSITUTE, the one WHO took our place on the cross to die and pay for our sins.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

He ALSO allowed himself to be SEPERATED from God the Father (the ONLY time ever).

Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

In other words the Lord Jesus WENT TO the “Hell of the Cross” FOR US so that NO PERSON would have to go there and be SEPERATED from him IF THEY would just Simply Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ went to the Cross to Die and shed his blood, was buried and Resurrected three days later from the dead as the COMPLETE PAYMENT for their sins alone personally.

The Lord Jesus did ALL THIS “Just For You and I”

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

As Son Of Man Christ WILL REIGN as “King of Kings, and “Lord of Lords”and that HE WILL Judge the Nations JUST BEFORE he establishes his Kingdom Reign for a Thousand Years here on earth.

Matthew 25:31-41 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: (32) And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: (33) And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. (34) Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: (35) For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: (36) Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. (37) Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? (38) When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? (39) Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? (40) And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (41) Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.

Revelation 19:16
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

The term “Son of God” speaks of our Lord’s Diety and as God HE WILL Judge the unsaved at the Great White Throne Judgement as THEIR JUDGE.

Revelation 20:11-15 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. (12) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. (13) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. (14) And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (15) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

And for the Believer (saved) he will Judge them at the Judgement Seat of Christ for the gain or loss of rewards.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

1 Corinthians 3:11-15 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (12) Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; (13) Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. (14) If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. (15) If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

IN CONCLUSION:

The BEST PART of all is that Christ as “The Son of Man” BECAME our subsitute and TOOK OUR PLACE at Calvary and “Paid the Penalty” for our sins so that we would not have to in hell.

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins. The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
