Question 426

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? How can we Be Angry and YET Sin Not according to Ephesians 4:26?

Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.

Answer:

This verse HAS brought much confusion among many christians.

To put it simply we are to be angry for the Right Reasons.

I look at this verse in this way, There are TWO TYPES of anger…

– Righteous Anger and Unrighteous Anger.

Let’s examine each one…

RIGHTEOUS ANGER:

The Apostle Paul said in Romans 16:17…

Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

NOTICE the words MARK THEM (Greek – SKOPEO) and it means TO LOOK AT, or CONSIDER in other words MAKE KNOWN, or POINT OUT those that TEACH CONTRARY to the doctrines of the Word of God.

Paul Pointed Out and Made Known to others WHO were those that tried to hinder The Gospel or had fallen in error AWAY from the Cause of Christ.

Such examples as…

2 Timothy 4:14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works.

2 Timothy 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

NO DOUBT the Apostle Paul HAD WORDS with these men BECAUSE they HINDERED the Gospel.

Therefore WE AS WELL are to be RIGHTEOUSLY ANGRY at those WHO TEACH False Doctrine and Make Them Known and Point Them Out to others.

UNRIGHTEOUS ANGER:

Ephesians 4:26 also says “let not the sun go down upon your wrath” for the simple fact that ANGER left unresolved CAN and often times makes a person say and do things that they will regret later.

Galatians 6:7 states...

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

I wonder HOW MANY murders could have been avoided if Anger WAS NOT allowed to festered into Hate, ONLY God knows.

Unrighteous anger (angry for the WRONG REASONS) can cause a lot of harm and irreparable damage.

In Conclusion:

The lesson for us here is that we are NOT TO LET our anger get so out of control that it is left unresolved and allowed to fester to the point that it makes us say things at the very lest and do things at the very worst that WE WILL later regret and maybe not to be able to undo.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
