Question? I’m stumped by Psalms 49:14, can you answer?
Psalms 49:14 Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
Answer:
Like Sheep: is referring to the Unsaved (Lost) and while they are in hell (Tormented in the Center of the earth – Read my question #140) as Psalms 49:14 states their bodies are rotten away in the grave (death shall feed on them).
The upright shall have dominion over them: is in reference to the Saved (Believer), The Christian is UPRIGHT in the “Eyes of the Lord” BECAUSE they have Christ Righteousness – 2 Corinthians 5:21 by Faith (Belief / Trust Alone in) in the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and HIS PAYMENT for their sins.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
In the morning: This is talking about the Two Resurrections mentioned in Hebrews 9:27 and Revelation 20:4 – 6 and 10 – 15.
Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.
Revelation 20:4-6 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (5) But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. (6) Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Revelation 20:11-15 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. (12) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. (13) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. (14) And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (15) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
The saved will receive a Glorified Resurrected body to ENJOY LIFE in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ for eternity, where as the lost, unsaved will receive a resurrected body that WILL ENDURE the “Painful Torments” of the Lake Fire for eternity.
Their beauty: Despite all the make up, Nice clothing they are dressed up in etc SHALL DECAY / ROT AWAY (consume – Heb.BALAH) in the grave or coffin (from their dwelling).
In Conclusion:
In Psalms 49:14 the Lord is simply comparing the eternal fate and destiny of the Lost, Unsaved person with the Saved. Although the Lost person will be “All Decked Out” in their finest and make for a SO CALLED “Beautiful Corpse” but reality is, they are in hell like the Rich Man in Luke Chp. 16 “BEING TORMENTED” where as the Saved are ENJOYING all the wonders of heaven – Matthew 25:21
Luke 16:19-24 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: (20) And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, (21) And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. (22) And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; (23) And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. (24) And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Don’t be like the Lost person and “Be a beautiful Corpse” in coffin but burning in hell INSTEAD Trust Christ as your saviour and be saved.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
