Question 570

By : Robert Serreyn

Question? I really appreciate your website. Few sites have the correct simple gospel. I have a question for your QA. Would you give a brief history of how things went so terribly wrong going from metanoeo to repent? Thank you.

ANSWER:

I am not to sure on as far as the history of why or how come the Greek word for Metanoeo (Change your mind) came to be translated as REPENT in the Kjv, but I do know that there are several different Greek words that are translated as REPENT in our English language.

The translators of the Kjv (as best as they could I am sure) TRIED to bring the meaning of those words into the English language, UNFORTUNATELY when the word REPENT was used it brought MUCH CONFUSION and Mis – interpreted.

Because it can be translated from the Greek as…

– “Sorry for sin” METAMELOMAI

In which Judas was, for his sin, and betrayal of the Lord Jesus Christ for 30 pieces of Silver but, HE NEVER METANOEO or “Changed his Mind” that Christ was the Messiah (Savior) and believed on Christ for the payment that he would make for his (Judas) sins on the cross.
NOTE: In the Old Testament they looked to the cross, Christ would die, In New Testament times we look back to cross, Christ did die.

Another good example is the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve CHOSE TO EAT the fruit from it BY their own free will (this is what is called a first mentioned principle), in direct disobedience to God’s command to NOT EAT from it, and because of that sin, not only did they died spiritually that day, they also were removed from the Garden permanently and had passed the penalty of sin unto each and every single person that has ever lived since.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.

AMETAMELETOS is the other word and it means Irrevocable (cannot be taken back or removed)

Romans 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Our salvation is “A Gift” that CANNOT be taken back or removed for it is ETERNAL – John 3:16.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

In Conclusion:

This is why it is SO IMPORTANT that we STUDY the scriptures – 2 Timothy 2:15 to make sure that we have the “Right Interpretation” BECAUSE if you use the “Wrong Meaning” for a word such as REPENT it would mean the difference from NOT GOING to heaven but rather to hell.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
