Question… In Revelation 3:7 what is the Key of David?
Revelation 3:7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
Answer:
The Key of David is not a what, but a who, and that who is Jesus Christ.
The Key of David is not a what, but a who, and that who is Jesus Christ.
The first mention of the Key Of David is found in Isaiah 22:22…
And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
A key represents authority, specifically God’s governance over the Nation of Israel.
When Jesus returns to reign on this earth for a thousand years, HE WILL do it from the Throne of David in the Temple in Jerusalem.
Psalms 132:11 The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.
he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
I believe there are two applications that can be applied here…
APPLICATION #1
– he that openeth, and no man shutteth: The entrance to heaven IS OPEN to everyone through the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, And whoever places their trust alone in Christ payment for their sins is only allowed then to enter.
– shutteth, and no man openeth: Hell is a place of ETERNAL TORMENT.
Revelation 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night,
Luke 16:19-24 (19) There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: (20) And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, (21) And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. (22) And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; (23) And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. (24) And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
Once a person enters hell there is NO ESCAPE, no exit door, and it is ONLY RESERVED for those who DO NOT trust alone in Christ Death, Burial, and Resurrection as the payment for their sins, and SADLY the majority of the population on earth WILL SUFFER this fact.
APPLICATION #2
God can and does open doors of opportunities for us to serve and wittness for him, BUT if we fail to take advantage of those opportunities when we are blessed with them then God closes those doors and we lose out not only on those opportunities but also on blessings and rewards that we would have received.
1 Corinthians 3:11-15 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (12) Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; (13) Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. (14) If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. (15) If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
In Conclusion:
If God gives you the opportunity (which he will) to serve and share the gospel (wittness) for him do not waste it, BUT take full advantage of them, because they are intended for OUR BENEFIT.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as YOUR savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins – See 1 Cor. 15:1-4.
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved – Acts 16:31
The moment that you do, YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.
John 10:28-29 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (29) My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
