Question? What is the difference between the Fine Linen, Clean and White and the White Robes mentioned in Revelations?

Answer:

For ease of answer lets look at two verses where these are mentioned.

REVELATION 6:11

And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

The White Robe REPRESENTS our salvation, Notice what Revelation 6:11 says And white robes were given unto every one of them.

The Greek word for White Robe is CHITON, which means TUNIC This was the inner garment that represents our salvation, this garment is given to EVERYONE who places their Trust in Christ alone as Savior These garments are all white, because you have the righteousness of Christ, Himself.

(2 Corinthians 5:21) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

A person ONLY RECIEVES this Absolute Perfection (Righteousness) that God requires to enter his heavenly kingdom (heaven) when they place their Faith Alone (believe) in the Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

(1 Corinthians 15:3, 4) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.

REVELATION 19:8

And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

The Fine Linen, Clean and White REPRESENTS our service (works) to the Lord AFTER we are saved.

TAKE NOTE of what Revelation 19:8 says for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

The Greek word for Fine Linen is HIMATION, which means OUTER GARMENT

This outer robe will be made up of the Christian’s faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ.

This robe, the christian will be doing the weaving themselves. This is the robe of righteousness, that is EARNED BY the believer, and GIVEN AT the Judgment Seat of Christ.

In Conclusion:

The TUNIC (White, or Inner Robe) is less costly because of the fact that salvation does not cost you anything. It is absolutely a free gift.

(Ephesians 2:8,9) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (9) Not of works, lest any man should boast.

(Titus 3:5) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

The OUTER GARMENT (Fine Linen) is the more costly of the two garments BECAUSE it is the RESULTS of Our Faithfulness and Service to the Lord Jesus

(1 Corinthians 3:11, 12) For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (12) Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble.

(2 Corinthians 5:10) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
