Question 318

By: Robert Serreyn

Question? Why would Jesus not pray for the world in John 17:9?

(John 17:9) I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

Answer:

The word WORLD in scripture is a typeology or representative of the Unsaved.

No where in scripture are we told to pray for the lost, although this WILL SHOCK most christians, Jesus himself DECLARED that he DOES NOT pray for them but HE DOES seek after them.

(Luke 19:10) For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

(Matthew 18:11) For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

In fact, Jesus COMMANDS us to SHARE the gospel with lost.

(Mark 16:15) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

When we do reach out to the lost with the gospel we are considered WISE for winning souls for Christ.

(Proverbs 11:30) The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

In Conclusion:

We ARE NOT instructed to pray for the lost, simply because they are the children of the world (satan).

(Ephesians 2:2) Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

(2 Corinthians 4:4) In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

If you do pray it is a complete voluntarily act on your part, not a mandated one from scripture or Jesus himself.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.

-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8

-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24

-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9

“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23

IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
