Question? Did snakes have legs? Do they eat dust? , What did God mean in Genesis 3:14?
Genesis 3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
Answer:
To give a simple answer to the question is a NO.
I have read several commentaries that when it is comes to Genesis 3:14 the commenter spiritualizes the verse and and say that the snake(serpent) could talk, lost its ability to walk (became without legs) and now eats dust for food.
First of all the serpent in V14 is in reference to to satan, God was just describing satan’s character just like we call somebody a snake for decieving people with something untruthful.
Second No snake eats dust for food, they eat rodents, varmints, and whatever animal that is smaller than them.
Thirdly there was NEVER a talking snake, Eve was talking to Satan (Lucifer) who probably had appeared to her in his angelic form – 2 Corinthians 11:14 or maybe in human like form (angels in scripture do and can appear in human form) – Genesis 19: 1-10, Acts 1:10, Luke 24: 4-7
2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Genesis 19:1 – 10 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; (2) And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. (3) And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat. (4) But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: (5) And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men (angels) which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. (6) And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, (7) And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. (8) Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men (angels) do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. (9) And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. (10) But the men (angels) put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.
Acts 1:10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
Luke 24:4-7 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: (5) And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? (6) He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, (7) Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
In Conclusion:
We must present and defend the Bible in a normal common sense way.
The moment we put FAIRY TALE type explainations uopon the Word of God we SHOULD NOT be suprised when people reject it as such as scripture states we are to avoid such a calamity.
1 Timothy 1:4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
