Question? What does Sift you as Wheat mean, Luke 22:31?
Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.
Answer:
The context of the scriptures surrounding this verse is where Jesus and the Twelve Apostles are sitting at the Lord’s Supper.
Jesus being God in the Flesh KNEW that Judas was going to betray him (V21)
Luke 22:21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
John 13:26-27 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. (27) And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
Jesus ALSO KNEW before hand that Peter (Simon) WOULD deny him three times (V34) despite that Peter said that he would go to prison or even DIE for Christ (V33).
Luke 22:34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
Luke 22:33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
The answer to the question is that Jesus was simply meaning that Satan was going to DECIEVE (Sift as Wheat) Peter to get him to DENY CHRIST, that is why Jesus said to Peter “Satan hath desired to have you” and the same principle is true for all christians today.
Satan DESIRES that ALL christians WOULD deny and make a mockery out of their saviour Jesus Christ, and he (satan) wants to SIFT AS WHEAT as many as he can for he knows that the more christians he can get to be complacent or better yet to keep secret that they are a christian the easier it is for him (satan) to keep the unsaved lost.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
