Question? I have a question about Hebrews 11:39, “The Promise” what was it, and why was it NOT received?
Answer:
The Promise spoken of in V39 is the Millennial Kindom.
The Lord Jesus would have set up “THE PROMISED Kingdom”, IF ONLY the Nation of Israel would have “Believed On” Christ as their Messiah (saviour) as a whole .
The reason it WAS NOT received was because of UNBELIEF.
Because of their UNBELIEF they rejected Christ and crucified him, saying…
Matthew 27:25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
As the old saying goes… “Be careful what you ask for you might just get it”, And as for the Nation of Israel is concerned, almost 2000 years have past since they uttered those words and they have SUFFERED GREATLY many things since that time.
You see the Lord originally INTENDED to use the Nation of Israel to take the Gospel and the Word of God to the world, BUT because of their Rejection, and, Crucifixtion of their Promised Saviour God PUT THEM in “Time Out” and Placed them on the shelf so to speak as a nation.
In V40, God in his foreknowledge KNEW these things would take place, therefore in his GRACEOUSNESS he made provision for us, the Gentile to be heirs of the “Blessed Promise” of living in the Millennial Kingdom, let’s take a look…
God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
To simply state it… God had US, the Gentile, in mind.
Let’s break V40 down…
– Having provided some better thing for us: The right for the Gentile to live in the Millennial Kingdom.
– That they: The Jews, Nation of Israel.
– Without us: The Gentile.
– Should not be made perfect: The Jews WOULD NOT be the only ones living in the Millennial Kingdom, US, The Gentile, known as The Church would be there as well.
In Conclusion:
THIS PROMISE will be kept until the time period known as the Church Age that we are living in today draws to a close and “We the Church” are FIRST Raptured to meet the Lord in the air – 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17 which is known as the Fullnes of the Gentiles – Romans 11:25 and then SECOND 7 years AFTER the Rapture we return back with the Lord – Jude 14 to set up and establish the Millennial Kingdom.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (16) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Jude 14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins.
The moment that you do YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
