Question? In both Matthew 27:8, and Acts 1:19 mention a Field Of Blood. My question is… Are they both the same field, and is this a contradiction as I have heard rumored?
Matthew 27:8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
Acts 1:19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.
Answer… The answer is a BIG NO to both of your questions and here is why. If you take a careful look at Matthew Chapter 27, in Verse’s 6 & 7 you will notice that the Chief Priest had purchased a field with the money that Judas iscariot had returned due to a guilty conscience for betraying Jesus Christ (V 4, & V5) and the Chief Priest named it The Field Of Blood BECAUSE OF the money given was used to purchase the betrayal of Jesus.
In Acts Chapter 1, in Verse 18 Judas used money that he had stolen, (John 12:4-6) to purchase a field and it was given the name The Field Of Blood beacause Judas Iscariot’s guts and blood had gushed out onto the ground after he had hanged himself (Acts 1:19).
(4) Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him, (5) Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? (6) This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
Acts 1:19… And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.
In Conclusion:
There is NO CONTRADICTION, the fields spoken of are TWO DIFFERENT FIELDS just given the same name for TWO DIFFERENT REASONS, there is NO CONNECTION between the two fields.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to know IS Jesus Christ as YOUR savior, just simply believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross and DIED and shed his blood, was BURIED and three days later RESURRECTED from the dead to pay for your sins – See 1 Cor. 15:1-4.
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved – Acts 16:31
The moment that you do, YOU HAVE (at that second and forever) Everlasting Life which WILL NEVER be taken away no matter what.
John 10:28-29 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (29) My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
-Christ DIED for you – Romans 5:8
-Christ PAID your sins in full – 2 Corinthians 5:21,1 Peter 2:24
-BELIEVE (Trust In Completely) in Christ ALONE as the complete payment of sin for salvation – John 3:16, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8,9
“For the wages(payment) of sin is death (eternal torment in hell); but the GIFT(salvation) of God is eternal life THROUGH Jesus Christ our Lord”. Romans 6:23
IT IS THAT SIMPLE – THE GOSPEL TRUTH
